Bloomsburg Falls to East Stroudsburg in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team lost to East Stroudsburg 67-50 on Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

East Stroudsburg opened the game by jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first three minutes, but Bloomsburg would come back to knot the score at four apiece after Stephanie Jones (Philadelphia/Manor College) made a lay-up at the 16:30 mark. Bloomsburg would then go on a 5-2 run over the next minute and a half, capped off by another Jones jumper that made the score 9-6 Huskies. For the next eight minutes, both teams exchanged the lead until Bloomsburg went in front 21-17 with 7:18 left in the half after Monica Denison (Zion Grove/Hazleton Area) drained a jumper. From there, East Stroudsburg dominated the rest of the half, eventually going on a 12-0 run to take a 29-21 lead at the 4:20 mark. Bloomsburg closed the East Stroudsburg deficit to four at 32-28 after Lauren Healy (Glenmoore/Owen J. Roberts) made two free throws with two minutes left, but East Stroudsburg ended the half by making two three-pointers that made the score 38-28 at the half.

In the second half, East Stroudsburg picked up where they left off, tearing off a 12-2 run in the half's first eight minutes to take a 50-30 lead. The closest the Huskies came to rest of the half to the East Stroudsburg lead was at the 10 minute mark when they cut the lead to 15 points at 50-35.

Leading Bloomsburg on the night was Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) who recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Kegerreis also shot a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line in the game. Jones finished with 11 points, while Healy also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

With the loss, Bloomsburg falls to 7-18 overall, 2-8 in the PSAC East, while East Stroudsburg improves to 10-13, 3-6 in the PSAC East.

Bloomsburg will return to action when they host West Chester at 5:30 p.m. on February 27.
